Loving Lent

Resurrection Eggs with Verses

Fasting and Adding

In my previous post I talked a lot about fasting from food. Giving something up for the Lent season is another way of fasting. Here are a few ideas of somethings that could challenge you, and grow you if you are stumped.

Tools for teaching the Stations of the Cross to little ones

Resurrection Eggs with Verses

I have a love for these eggs. They are called Resurrection Eggs. If the DIY package isn’t your thing for $6, then she sells a kit completely assembled for $12.

“This kit is the perfect way to tell the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection to children.  The kit contains a trinket for each egg that symbolizes parts of Christ journey to the cross and His death and how He raised from the dead! It is a wonderful sensory experience! The kit also contains an illustrated print cover to put on your egg carton and lesson plan to guide you through teaching the eggs.”

There are 14 Stations of the Cross. Not Twelve, so the Resurrection Eggs serve as a great introduction.

Verses

These are verses that you don’t need a degree to understand, and they hold so much comfort for me personally. They are a great place to start when it comes to memorization or just anchoring yourself throughout the day with fasting and temptation.

Psalm 62:1-2

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

Ephesians 1:7-8

In Him we have redemption through His Blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 10:10

I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.

John 11:25-26

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”

Matthew 6:16-18

And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by you Father who is in secret. And your Father who is secret will reward you.

Matthew 28:6

He is not here,
For He has
Risen as He said!

Easter Basket Ideas

Instead of filling the basket with candy, I try to fill it with things that will support their relationship with and understanding of God. (Just click the photos to be brought to the website.)

These books are my absolute favorite and a few of them have coloring/activity books to accompany them:

These are from Daily Grace Co. They have a whole section for Children.

These are temporary tattoo that can be used as a tool to memorize verses:

Spotify Worship Playlist

Music is so important to me. Whenever I’m having a hard day, I blast worship music in the kitchen. Whenever I want to start the day off right, I blast worship music in the kitchen. If I’m grumpy about having to drive somewhere or excited about the day, I play it in the car. I listen to it while I write. Worship music grounds me. It helps me to be vulnerable, it makes me dance around in celebration.

Most of these songs are off our church playlist, but they are my favorite and I will be adding to them over the Lent season. Make sure you hit the “Follow” button for this playlist on Spotify so that it will update every time a song is added.
